Hello.

I am 25 years old and a citizen of Russia and would very much like to continue my studies in Finland. I have already finished high school and university and have the diploma of physicist, but now I've decided to study to be a nurse. I can study in Finland free of charge? And what are my options? Thank you for all help!

Hello!

Studying in Finland is free because universities in Finland are government financed and therefore don’t charge any fee even from international students (Note! Finland is planning to introduce tuition fee for non-EU international students after 2010). But even though university charges no fee, you’ll have to join a university student union and pay a student union fee. The monthly student living cost in Finland is estimated to be between 600 and 750 euros.

Nursing in Finland is now carried out in the polytechnics (AMK) and the studies take approximately 3-3,5 years. You have three options:
- the nurse (Sairaanhoitaja/Sjuksöterska);
- the public health nurse (Terveydenhoitaja/ Hälsovårdare)
- the midwife (Kätilö/Barnmorska).

Good luck with your studies!

Best regards,

Thank you for your reply. Before possibly moving, should I have some savings? Do I need to take an exam for foreign language? English or Finnish? What kind of language level do I need to pass those exams? Where and how can I apply? Thank you.

Hello Julia, how much savings you should have, depends a lot on where you are going to live, are you going to work part-time etc. But the estimated living costs in Finland are about between 600-750 euros per month, depending on what city you live in.

Considering your next questions, you should directly contact the school you are interested in, and they can help you with finding the right language test and proceeding with the application process.

Best regards, Eveliina
